The Conversation : The design tricks that made the Nokia 3310 world-beating

There's a cult around the Nokia 3310, which was much-loved for a multitude of reasons. News of a potential re-launch for the iconic Nokia 3310 took the world by storm earlier this month, and the likelihood of a resurrection is growing stronger by the day. According to Chinese site Vtech, the new Nokia 3310 will feature a colour screen, rather than the monochrome 84 x 84 display of old. It was well-designed, boasted terrific battery life and was incredibly hard-wearing, with fans hailing it as 'indestructible'. In 2015 the Nokia 3310 was chosen as one of the first three 'National Emojis' for Finland, with the pictograph being named 'The Unbreakable'. Like the 3210, the 3310 also allowed users to remove the front and back covers for a change of colour or design. VentureBeat's report suggests the new phone will be sold at €59, which equates to around $80 Australian. Despite the upgrades, the 3310 could leverage its relatively tiny (and replaceable) 900mAh battery to last 55 hours on standby.
