"theverge" declare : Nokia and Zeiss brands reunite for the Android era

as mentioned in HMD Global, the Finnish company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia lumia phones, is now rekindling an old partnership with Zeiss camera lenses. HMD will have to prove that its premium handset with Zeiss optics isn't just an average android phone with a couple of respected stickers on it. Nokia-built phones used Carl Zeiss optics for years, heralding it as a selling point for the popular N95 smartphone a decade ago. Any new Nokia-branded premium phones won't be made by the same engineers that pioneered PureView. HMD has already unveiled a trio of Nokia-branded Android smartphones, but none of them feature Zeiss optics.

HMD Global, which has licensed the Nokia brand from the Finnish telecoms giant, has signed an exclusive deal with Zeiss, the high-end lens and optical systems maker. Many may say the camera is key, and now the new version of Nokia hopes to stand out by putting Carl Zeiss lenses in its phones. But it's a measure of how assiduous HMD has been in building on old relationships with the Finnish brand - Nokia was in a partnership with Zeiss until it sold its ailing smartphone division to Microsoft. Forget cheap and cheerful throwaway phones, Nokia is where you will now turn for a premium smartphone experience with advanced imaging technology you can't get anywhere else.

Nokia 8 revealed in leaked images with dual-camera Zeiss optics

HMD Global, the Finnish company that licensed the rights to produce Nokia lumia phones, revealed its Zeiss partnership earlier this month. Apple hired Nokia's Lumia photography expert, and the majority of the talent behind Nokia's camera work left the company when Microsoft acquired Nokia's phone business. HMD is now bringing back the Zeiss branding on Nokia-branded phones, and it appears the first one will emerge later this month. While this Nokia 8 will include Carl Zeiss optics, it won't have the same type of camera system that was made by the engineers of Nokia's PureView. Venture Beat and WinFuture both report that HMD will launch a Nokia 8 handset on July 31st, with dual-cameras.
