Couple convicted of lying to Dothan Social Security officials; received $25K in illegal benefits

according to Two Montgomery residents were convicted of Social Security fraud this week after testimony revealed they lied to the Dothan Social Security Office to gain benefits. U.S. Attorney Louis Franklin announced Friday that Nakia Palmer, 35, and husband Nathaniel Palmer, 30, were also convicted of food stamp fraud, mail fraud and theft of government property. According to Franklin, Nakia Palmer began the scheme by telling Dothan Social Security employees that she was an actress living in California. This was done so Social Security would not consider her income when determining whether the minor son was eligible for benefits, but only the income of the husband. Nakia Palmer, in fact, worked at the Social Security Office in Montgomery and was not a California actress.
