Jane's (Paula Patton) one-shouldered floaty number in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol may have looked delicate, but it had to do some serious acrobatics in a chase scene: "They had to make a special ball gown for that scene with a little bit of Velcro in the back," Patton told Vanity Fair. "We're on our way to our next mission, and I'm in this huge green ball gown, and we have to get to our next place where I have to do a lot of physical activity. I'll tell you, changing in a car while it's speeding through the streets of Mumbai is quite a challenge."

At this point in the film, the kingdom is in crisis; emotions are high and the future is in peril. MarvelThe plot of Black Panther is driven by a fight between two perspectives on the history and future of Wakanda, writ large on T'Challa and Killmonger. But these characters, unlike Nakia and Okoye, cannot clearly navigate their way through a political debate because of their personal stakes and past trauma. Okoye and Nakia not only provide a model for political discourse and disagreement, but also a model for cinematic representation. These women are crucial to the structure of the film and to how the film's central ideas play out.

Black Panther Deleted Script Scene Introduced Nakia's Family

168 Shares Share Tweet Email Copy Link CopiedRyan Coogler's Black Panther hasn't opened in theaters just yet, but that hasn't stopped the writer/director from revealing a deleted scene involving Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia that didn't make the final cut. Nyong'o's Nakia is a major player, being T'Challa's former lover and a spy for the Wakandan forces in the comics, and having a huge presence in the Black Panther movie. At least Coogler had the foresight to realize what he did and didn't need for Black Panther. Alongside Nakia's parents, we already know that a romance between Okoye and Ayo was cut from the finished product, leading us to question what else was scrapped in the early stages of Black Panther. Who knows, maybe Mr. and Mrs. Nakia will pop up in Black Panther 2.
